Story: Standing in a corral at the auction, she was introduced as a Friesian mare, about to be sent overseas like so many other unlucky horses. Like all the rest of the animals, she was caked in mud, and a bit on the skinny side. But she had the telltail way of standing that friesians have, alert, with ears pricked, and head high. She was purchased, and loaded up into a multi horse trailor with several pure arabian mares. During the long drive home, we kept hearing neighing and thudding in the back, and realized that the friesian mare was becoming more and more restless. Her nose constantly to the wind, and she kept pawing at the wall of the trailer with one muddy forleg. After attaching a lead to her halter, she was taken for a short walk around near the truck and trailer, to stretch her legs, and work some of that pent up energy out. We decided against stopping for long because of an approaching storm. On the road again.. she became more and more vocal, and restless. We suspected she was afraid of the storm. Luckily there was not much farther to go, and, soon we pulled up the long gravel drive of Demiwolfe Stables. She was the first to be unloaded, and, to our surprise, once she was released into her new stall, and paddoc, she immediately took to the outside of her shelter, reveling in the downpooring rain. She pranced, and winnied, tossing her muddy head, rearing with the thunder and lightning, and looked to be enjoying herself greatly. That was when I realized.. she didn't fear storms.. She LOVED them!
The following day, after the rain had stopped, and the sun shone bright through the break in the clouds.. We were amazed to find a still muddy mare, but there were hints of pale mane in that braided mass that hung down one side of her neck. After much washing and brushing, currying and clipping.. There stood, relieved of the mud and whatever it held.. a stunning mare. pale mane and tail hung in waves as long as any Tribal's.. but she had irridescent.. sparkles.. that caught the sun, and made her seem to glitter like a faceted diamond.. a fiery, dark diamond.
Letting her back into her stall, she paced around the outside, sometimes with the wind, sometimes against it, waiting for the rain.
